Polish newspaper claims 'Pedobear' is 2010 Vancouver Olympic mascotnotorious : 悪名高い

A Polish newspaper mistakenly identified "Pedobear", a notorious internet meme, as one of the mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

It appears that the newspaper lifted the picture from Google Images, unaware that it had been created as a prank by Michael Barrick, a Canadian artist and graphic designer. Pedobear, who is on the far right of the picture, was originally devised by members of the anarchic 4chan message board as a way of mocking users who expressed a sexual interest in young people. Since then a tasteless internet trend – or meme – has emerged in which users insert the bear into other photos in a contest to create the most inappropriate composite image.

There's an early 2010 contender for an office innovation award, or at least the best name for an office innovation. DigInfo News brings us a very special report on "White Goat," a miracle-working machine by Oriental Co., Ltd that directly recycles office paper into toilet paper. Users need only add water along with any embarrassing e-mail printouts or unwanted TPS reports they need shredded, and out comes TP of dubious softness.

Astronomy Ireland is waiting to hear if any parts of a space rock survived its flaming entry into the earth’s atmosphere over Ireland last night and have been found. Numerous sightings of a fireball blazing across the sky were reported across the country yesterday evening. David Moore from Astronomy Ireland said a space rock had collided with the earth’s atmosphere at about 6pm, showering debris over many parts of the country.

The last time a meteorite hit Ireland was in 1999 and parts of the rock were retrieved in Co Carlow. It sold for $500 dollars per gram, and Astronomy Ireland is urging anyone with sightings to record it on its website.

Astronomy Ireland is compiling reports to try to determine where the meteorite landed and is encouraging people to log what they saw through its website - astronomy.ie. In February 2003 a meteorite 'middle man' in the UK offered up to £20,000 for samples of a meteorite that may have fallen in Ireland.
